The article below has many great tips on this subject.

It is very important that you display enthusiasm when you are speaking publicly. There is no way that you will get others excited about a topic if it seems like you are bored with it. If the topic is one that is a bit more emotionally driven, you have to show them that you care.

Bring your audience to your corner before starting your speech. Smile while they’re walking into the room, and give a friendly handshake or two. Presenting yourself in a positive light before your speech prepares the audience to listen to you with interest.

Do your best to deliver unique information to your audience instead of telling them things they could have easily gotten from someone else. You need to make it clear that it is you that they need to listen to. Do research to make sure that you are not giving them duplicated content.

One of the best ways to learn is to watch. Do a little research. Think about the best public speakers in history, then watch videos of them making speeches. You can learn a lot when you focus on their mannerisms and the way they address the audience. Try to emulate those skills.

Don’t beat yourself up if you make a mistake during your presentation. Unless the information given wrongly is important do not correct your mistake. Instead, continue on with your speech like nothing has happened. If you need to correct the mistake you made, apologize and correct the mistake and continue on.

If you are using visual aids, don’t make them distracting. You need them to underscore your main points. You don’t want your message to get lost. Make sure the visual aids are high quality. Color is great, as are graphics and creative fonts. Just don’t go overboard.

Be prepared for the unexpected. While you hope that nothing will happen to ruin your speech, try to plan for any contingencies. What will you do if one of your audio visual aids does not work? What if the microphone fails? How will you handle audience interruptions or questions? Having a plan in place to handle possible issues makes it more likely that your public speaking experience will go well.

Try to relax when it comes time for you speak in public. If you need time before your speech, try pausing, smiling, and silently counting to three to relax. When you start speaking, make sure you address your audience. This can also give you some extra time to calm down.

Keep things in perspective. Things do not always go as planned, but that does not necessarily mean that your speech is not effective or well-received. Whether you trip over a cord or forget your next line, it is not the end of the world. If you do not make a big deal of it, most people will probably not even remember that it happened. Regain your poise, and continue with your speech.

Understand the audience you are speaking to. Every audience wants something different. Your colleagues may want to be informed. Loved ones usually want to be entertained. Please your audience, no matter who they are.

Don’t announce that you are nervous. They will regard your speech more highly if you simply deliver it to them without any personal confessions. It’s not uncommon for a speaker to assume that the people they are speaking to can see how scared or nervous they are. The truth is that most people will not notice. It’s best to let everyone believe that you’re in control, even if it feels otherwise.

Visit your venue a few days in advance to get the lay of the land. Being familiar with the room where you will speak will make everything easier and more comfortable. On the day of the event, be sure to arrive early to socialize with members of your audience and begin creating a connection.

Look up famous public speakers and fin out how they overcame their fears. many of the greatest public speakers have overcome a complete dread of public speaking but worked hard to over come it. they may even admit they still feel nervous before taking stage but that the applause afterward makes it completely worth it.

Be sure to stretch your body before doing any public speaking. It isn’t just about your voice. Your entire body is on stage while speaking. Just five minutes of stretching can relieve a ton of tension and give you the appearance of being relaxed. That’s a big thing, and it’ll help make your speech a success.

Pay attention to your voice when you are speaking in public. Not only do you want your voice to carry to each member in the audience, but you want to vary your voice to keep the audience’s interest. Vary the tone of your voice. Pause now and then for effect. Keep your audience’s attention with variations in your voice, even if you are talking about a dull topic, such as math.
